Our Roots Run Deep

1956

The Beginning

Arthur Vining Davis, chairman of the Aluminum Company of America, had an estimated 100,000 acres of land holdings in Florida.

1957

The Crown Jewel

The first land tract selected for development, the "crown jewel" of his land holdings, was 450 acres that became Royal Palm.

1958

Original Golf Pro

Sam Snead was named Golf Professional, dividing his time between Royal Palm and the Boca Raton Hotel & Club. The original members of Royal Palm paid an astounding initiation fee of $100 and were required to be owners of a residential lot.

1959

The First Course

Construction work on the golf course was completed. Robert Trent Jones was the designer.

1960

Mid-Century Style

The original Yacht Club and Country Club buildings were designed by Architect Robert Finch Smith in the Bahama-Colonial architectural style.

1961

Marina

The most modern marina piers and docks of the day were contracted for by Lynns-Trump for a cost of $108,000.

1972

Building Membership

Membership opened to non-Royal Palm homeowners.

1988

A Redesign With A Modern Twist

Total renovation and redesign of the golf course by Joe Lee, with a new state-of-the-art automatic irrigation system and the addition of three new lakes.

2002

Signature Golf Course

Golf Course renovation by Jack Nicklaus. He and son, Michael, played the first official round of 18 holes.

2005

Our Campus Grows

Renovation of our Country Club building provided our Members with a comfortable place to invite friends and family right off of our newly updated golf course.

2014

Golden Bear Redesign

For our golf course renovation, Jack Nicklaus returned to improve upon his 12-year-old design and worked closely with our staff.

2016

Yacht Club Renovation

Renovation of the original, 50 year-old Yacht Club building has given the Membership a luxurious and well-appointed venue to enjoy everyday dining as well as special events.
